What is Saju?
A quick English guide to Korean Saju (Four Pillars) and chatting with Dodam, our AI sage.
What is Saju?
Saju (四柱, 사주) means "Four Pillars" — a chart calculated from the year, month, day, and hour of your birth. Each pillar has a heavenly stem and an earthly branch, mapped onto the Five Elements (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water). It's the Korean tradition closest to Chinese BaZi.
Is it fortune telling?
We don't treat it as prediction. Your chart is a mirror — it doesn't have to be flattering, only honest; you're the one who looks into it. And it's computed from your exact birth moment, not answered on a questionnaire or guessed by a chatbot. Like astrology or MBTI for self-reflection — but calculated, not self-reported.
Why accuracy matters
Calculating the chart is deterministic, so it must be exact. We compute true solar time, the 24 solar terms, historical daylight-saving periods, and late-night-hour rules directly from astronomy — so the elements are right from the start.
Five sages, five ways to be heard
There isn't one counselor — there are five, because everyone wants to be met differently. Same chart: Dodam reads it warm and quick; Suan holds the silence with you; Byeori gets you moving; Myeongjae finds the pattern; Byeoksong reads the season you're in. Five people, not five options on a menu.
Can I use it in English?
The interface is in Korean, but you can write to the sages in English (or your own language) — they reply in kind, staying in character and explaining Saju terms in plain words. Your browser's translate also works well for the menus.
